7 Days in Busan : Day 6

Heart Me!
Comment

It is always wise to beware of the weather while travelling so you can prepare what is right for your trip.

We knew today is going to be the coldest day of the week, around 3 to 5 degrees Celcius, so we did wear a lot more inside.

And I actually changed my original plan to accommodate to the cold weather, and set to walk around Gamcheon Culture Village today.

Nooooooottt exactly sure this is a good idea but I'm always more keen to walk out on a cold day than hot ones.

Verdict

Put fun back into walking with this little adventure.

There used to be a hut where you can purchase the stamping map for 2,000 won ($1.68), but now they have been relocated to a building right where the trail begins. The map does come in a few different languages, so do remember to ask for the one that suits you best.

Most visitors here have no intention of completing the course.

And I can understand why it is not necessary and it requires a lot of time to do so. Therefore you will see a lot of them are only here to take a bunch of photos at the very beginning of the road. Especially where the Little Prince and the Fox statues are located.

If you have the extra time to spare, and wanting to get on a stamping adventure, go finish it.

Plus, you'll be able to collect three postcards, get to see a lot of quirky stuff along the way, and give yourself good workout. Getting your money's worth for the 2,000 won ($1.68) you've paid for.

It is not an easy challenge, and yes it does feel like a challenge navigating with the map, walking and stamping. But it also feels like such an adventure. An adventure probably meant for the younger visitors but hey, there is no maximum age restriction (or time limit).

I have had doubt of coming back again since I've done and navigated the entire village before a year ago. To my surprise, walking under this colder weather really does make things a little bit easier and for sure, way less sweaty.

Pizza toppings on toasted bread.

Our order at GOPIZZA (고피자)

Not bad, but not great.

Good enough to keep your hunger at bay but probably not your cravings for a quality pizza.

Go for their Domino's (도미노피자) if you want something better but also more expensive. Like way more expensive.

Verdict

Best combination of spicy tteokbokki and twigim - plus free soup.

Tteokbokki Twigim set (떡볶이 튀김 세트) 3,500 won ($2.94)

Tested many tteobokki places before and this still stands out as the best one that I've tasted so far. Maybe it is relatively inexpensive, and has a very solid spicy kick to it.

It is a corner shop situated inside of Bupyeong Kkangtong Market (부평깡통시장) but don't come over on Sunday - they are closed on this day.

Even if you are not very into tteokbokki, give this a try.

Their twigim (튀김) are also very crunchy and fresh. Plus you can get yourself an extra corndog or fried chicken skewer, selling from the same stall.

But don't leave just yet, because you should scoop yourself a cup or two of free Odeng soup (오뎅국).

Cheese Toast (치즈 토스트) in the making at Moon Toast (문토스트)

If you've never had it, I can only describe the difference of this toast from the other is that this is a really cheese focused toast with a piece of square shaped egg with some veges in it, along with some castor sugar and ketchup.

We got two for the price of one, maybe it was some kind of ongoing promotion but I wasn't too sure how long it last.

Verdict

Not quite a food paradise as one would expect.

The chances are high that you'll pass by or come near to this area. It is located near the exits of Jagalchi Station (자갈치역). For those who plans to visit Jagalchi Fish Market (자갈치시장), Bupyeong Kkangtong Market (부평깡통시장) or Gukje Market (국제시장), you are just around the corner.

When you see stalls with a queue line, you know there's gotta be something going on ;)

I'm not into the celebrity handprints here so there isn't much for me aside from the street food. However, street food hunters are better off to go somewhere around Seomyeon (서면) and Haeundae (해운대), than over here.

Still, let me share a few treats I had here.

Ssiat Hotteok (씨앗호떡) in the making

Ssiat Hotteok (씨앗호떡)

Their Busan style frying pancake, Ssiat Hotteok (씨앗호떡) made by using dough ball filled with brown sugar, shallow fried in oil and later cut open to fill in with flower seeds are the popular snack here. Worth a try!

Flat Dumpling (납작만두) in the making

Flat Dumpling (납작만두)

Another one is the Flat Dumpling (납작만두) and they are served with a side of spicy and savoury cabbage. I believe they originally comes with squids too but not anymore, and so it seems a little expensive in my opinion.

Hot steamy Egg Bread (계란빵) at BIFF Square (BIFF 광장)

Egg Bread (계란빵)

Unlike what its name suggest, it is actually a sweet cake top with an egg. Sometimes you will meet stall like this one here with additional toppings to choose from such as bacon, cheese or sausage.

Better than most cafes we went to in town but also pricier.

They have a small variety of desserts on menu which I think are pretty good but we can't take in any more food, so we have to give it a pass. Not to mention, everything is on the expensive side, especially their alcoholic drinks.

Their Mandarin Latte (만다린 라떼) is more like crushed oranges with milk, a very different drink from the Tangerine Latte (덴저린 라떼) we had at Mer De Cour (메르데쿠르). That was a coffee based drink.

You will easily miss this because believe me, most people never think of coming up to the rooftop of a shopping mall.

Want to go to a observation deck? Come here for FREE!

Simply step into the mall's lift and you shall be able to take yourself up to the 11th floor. All the top 11th, 12th and 13th floors are free for you to explore.
